Under the current SACS versions, SACS uses annex F table F.1.1. of the Eurocode ENV 1993:1-1:1992 to determine the C1 factor in the elastic critical moment equation. Setting the C1 factor accurately is of paramount importance to determining the elastic critical moment of a beam. However, this table is only applicable for a number of standard load cases. For combined loading cases Table F1.1. offers nowhere near accurate solutions. For these cases there are F.E.M. based solutions that offer accurate and reliable elastic critical moments for beams. A great example of such a solution is the free to download software LTBeam from CTICM. There are also tables generated from F.E. models that offer lookup tables for combined loading cases made by CTICM in the NCCI: ''Elastic critical moment for lateral torsional buckling" SN003b-EN-EU (see .pdf attached). Ideally, the idea here is that SACS calculates the elastic critical moment using LTBeam. Alternatively, implementation of lookup tables such as the ones from the NCCI would offer at least a significant improvement from the current methodology that SACS uses.
